Fresh, nutty & slightly savoury

As with all of Alex Reid’s cheeses, Lochnagar is named after a famous local landmark around Royal Deeside and the Cairngorms where the cheese is made. Lochnagar, the cheese, is an age-old family recipe almost as old as the mountain itself.

Alex started the Cambus O’May Cheese Company in 2008 to recreate the flavours of Scottish cheese that have been all but lost. He has combined the time-assured recipes from over five generations with state of the art equipment to create seriously exceptional cheese.

Alex’s desire to re-introduce the exceptional taste from years ago means that all the cheese is hand-made. This results in a creamy texture which mimics the smooth heather covered western slopes of the mountain whilst the strong and complex flavours and sharp finish reflect the jagged eastern cliffs.
